Wade took a promissory not[[Trotter-565|Ephraim Trotter]] brought suit against his brother-in-law [[Wheat-1051|Edmund Wheat]] for non-payment of the mortgage Ephraim was holding on the 302 acres in Morgan Co. ...petition of Ephraim Trotter ... on the eighth day of February, in the year eighteen hundred and forty-one, [[Wheat-1051|Edmund Wheat]] of said county, made and delivered to your petitioner his certain mortgage deed, in writing, of that date ... and the said Edmund ... bargained property or premises unto the said Ephraim ... provided nevertheless, that the said Edmund, ... pay, or cause to be paid unto the aforesaid Wade... six hundred and thirty dollars.... Edmund Wheat has not complied with the condition of said deed of mortgage, and that your petitioner has been compelled to pay on said notes said sum of money, with lawful interest thereon. It is Ordered by the Court, that the said Edmund Wheat show cause ... why the equity of redemption in and to the said mortgaged premises, or property, should not be forever barred and foreclosed. In Mar 1843 the sheriff sold Edmund Wheat's 300 acres to settle the suit. The property was listed in 1843 as “where Edmund Wheat previously lived,” so Edmund must have left Morgan Co, GA about 1843/44 for Chambers Co, AL.

By 1850 Edmund was living in District 19, Chambers Co, AL in the household of Margaret Nixon, age 40, and was working as a miller in the grain - mill products industry. Living six homes away was Edmund's sister Martha Wheat Willoughby and his mother Elizabeth Wheat. No other records could be found for Margaret Nixon; although she was of the right age to be a sister, she was not born in North Carolina and thus is unlikely to be Edmund's sister. Three Nixon men were on the Morgan Co, GA tax lists in the 1840s, so Margaret may have been related to one of them as well.

Living nearby Edmund and his family in 1855 is a B.W. Trotter who may be his nephew.

Edmund has not yet been found in 1860. Edmund was on the 1866 Macon Co (adjacent to Lee Co) state census. In addition to Edmund and his wife, they had 1 male and 4 females under 21. By 1867 he was residing in adjacent Lee Co, AL where he appeared on the voter registration list.

As noted above, Edmund's 1870 census record was incorrectly transcribed to indicate his name was George, but the original census record clearly shows his name was Ed, not George. Nevertheless, the majority of online trees refer to him as George Edmund Wheat.

The war took a toll on Edmund and his family. By 1870 Edmund, his wife and their 7 children, all listed as white, were residing in a post-war mixed race household of 27 people (household 182, Lee Co) including S. Brim, a 65 year old black male farmer, the mulatto/black Stewers family of 4, white Moore family of 2, white Allen family of 5 and the black Johnson family of 6. Both B. Moore and Edmund Wheat were listed as millers. Based on another Wheat female living with a different Allen family in 1860, there may be some familial relationship between the Wheats and the Allens in the 1870 household.

While the 1870 household head is not listed, J. M. Allen, a medical doctor with real estate valued at $3000, is the only person with assets in the household; his 22 year old wife was E. J. Allen. All the neighboring families are black so the Allens may have been large land owners.

In the 1880 census Edmund stated his parents were both born in North Carolina.

      P. Wheat is unlikely to be the daughter of Catherine Wheat because Catherine's child-bearing years were already over when Ida was born. Ida may be the daughter of Mary who was still living at home with her father Edmund in 1880.

     Samantha Lena Wheat was born in 1851 at Alabama. She was the daughter of Edmund Wheat and Catherine Charlo Lock.

     Terrence Barrett was born on 6 Jul 1867 at Co Cork, Ireland. He was the son of Richard Barrett I and Margaret Hallinan.

     Fannie Catherine Wheat was born in 1855 at Alabama. She was the daughter of Edmund Wheat and Catherine Charlo Lock.

     Nancy Lou Wheat was born in 1857 at Alabama. She was the daughter of Edmund Wheat and Catherine Charlo Lock. Nancy Lou Wheat married Unknown McElroy a 1878.

     Unknown McElroy was born a 1852. He married Nancy Lou Wheat, daughter of Edmund Wheat and Catherine Charlo Lock, a 1878.

     Ivey McEllroy was born in 1879 at Alabama. He was the son of Unknown McElroy and Nancy Lou Wheat.

     Martha A. Barnes was born a 1843. She married Frederick Willoughby on 17 Oct 1863 at Chambers Co, Alabama.

     James Fredrick Willoughby was born in 1852 at Alabama. He was the son of Frederick Willoughby and Martha Wheat. James Fredrick Willoughby died on 29 Oct 1926 at McLennan Co, Texas.

     Lovice Frances Willoughby was born on 3 Jul 1855 at Standing Rock, Chambers Co, Alabama. She was the daughter of Frederick Willoughby and Martha Wheat. Lovice Frances Willoughby died on 8 Nov 1929 at Lineville, Clay Co, Alabama, at age 74.

     James H. Patterson was born a 1833. He married Hester Ann E. Willoughby, daughter of Frederick Willoughby and Martha Wheat, on 22 Nov 1853 at Chambers Co, Alabama.

     John James Culpepper was born on 4 Dec 1850 at Chambers Co, Alabama. He married Nancy Jane Willoughby, daughter of Frederick Willoughby and Martha Wheat, on 7 Dec 1870 at Chambers Co, Alabama. John James Culpepper died on 28 Sep 1938 at Albertville, Marshall Co, Alabama, at age 87.

     Jessie Calvenia Millender was born in 1869 at Alabama. She was the daughter of Ronnie Robertson and Nancy Ellen Wheat. Jessie Calvenia Millender married John G. Kirkland on 23 Dec 1886 at Talladega Co, Alabama. Jessie Calvenia Millender married Robert James Meek on 20 Jun 1901 at Wood Co, Texas. Jessie Calvenia Millender died in 1921 at Wood Co, Texas.

      Jessie Caldonia Millender was noted as Jessie C. Millinder, a one-year-old orphan, in the James E. and Elizabeth Right household in 1870 in Talladega Co, AL.

     Robert James Meek was born on 24 Sep 1850. He married Jessie Calvenia Millender, daughter of Ronnie Robertson and Nancy Ellen Wheat, on 20 Jun 1901 at Wood Co, Texas. Robert James Meek died in Feb 1920 at Wood Co, Texas, at age 69.

     John G. Kirkland was born in 1870 at Alabama. He married Jessie Calvenia Millender, daughter of Ronnie Robertson and Nancy Ellen Wheat, on 23 Dec 1886 at Talladega Co, Alabama.

     Annie Robertson was born in May 1874 at Alabama. She married Charlie Greene Millender, son of SGT William "Bill" Elisha Millender I and Nancy Ellen Wheat, in May 1898 at Alabama.

     Bertie B. Downs was born in 1882 at Alabama. She married William Elisha Millender II, son of SGT William "Bill" Elisha Millender I and Nancy Ellen Wheat, in 1900 at Alabama.

     W. S. Sanders was born a 1875. He married Minnie Millender, daughter of SGT William "Bill" Elisha Millender I and Nancy Ellen Wheat, on 9 Dec 1900 at Shelby Co, Alabama.

     Amy Gwin was born on 18 Aug 1882 at Talladega Co, Alabama. She married John Renfroe Millender, son of SGT William "Bill" Elisha Millender I and Nancy Ellen Wheat, in 1900. Amy Gwin died on 15 Mar 1966 at Okolona, Chickasaw Co, Mississippi, at age 83.

     Nathan Castleberry Nalls was born on 26 Dec 1885. He married Lula Elizabeth Millender, daughter of SGT William "Bill" Elisha Millender I and Nancy Ellen Wheat, on 15 Jan 1905 at Shelby Co, Alabama. Nathan Castleberry Nalls died on 11 May 1974 at Kaufman Co, Texas, at age 88.

     Jemma Elizabeth Quaranta Guzzi is the daughter of Catherine Melissa Winslett Guzzi.

     Elizabeth Durling was born in 1826 at Hemford, Lunenburg, Novia Scotia, Canada. She was the daughter of Phineas Durling I and Mary MacNayr. Elizabeth Durling died in 1895 at New Germany, Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada.
