William took the oath of allegiance to engage and promise to be true and faithful to the Commonwealth of England as it "is now established without King or House of Lords" on 30 Mar 1651 at Northampton Co, VA.

William deeded 300 acres as a gift in 1672 at tract A66, Metompkin, Accomack Co, VA to William and Francis Sacker, brothers and the heirs of Edward Sacker deceased, who had married William's step-daughter Frances Stockley, who was briefly married to another William Custis after Feb 1671 for a year. At the seaboard, the acreage was north of the land later sold to Black and from there extended westward along his land and the rest of the Custis land to its head line.

In 1688 Francis Sacker died intestate, and his brother William became sole owner of the gifted land; he left the land to his cousin Elizabeth Custis, the daughter of his uncle Henry Custis, who was a half-brother of Sacker's mother Frances (Stockley) Sacker Custis. Elizabeth Custis married Delight Shield, who in 1705 built the first courthouse, other than a tavern, at the present town of Accomac in Accomack Co, VA.
