     (Unknown) Kilpatrick was born a 1885. He married Olive Bessie Counts, daughter of George Washington Counts and Clara Jeffries, a 1910.

     (Unknown) Smith was born a 1902. He married Ora Counts, daughter of George Washington Counts and Clara Jeffries, a 1907.

     (Unknown) Wood was born a 1832. She married William Counts, son of George Washington Counts and Matilda "Tilda" Johnson, a 1852.¹ (Unknown) Wood died b 1880.

     Ephraim McDowell was born in 1673 at Co Londonderry, Ireland. He married Margaret Irvine a 1705. Ephraim McDowell immigrated on 4 Sep 1729 to Lancaster, Pennsylvania. He died c 1737 at Rockbridge Co, Virginia. He was buried at Rockbridge Co, Virginia.

      The McDowells were natives of Scotland who settled in Ireland in Ulster near Belfast during Cromwell's time. They were all Presbyterian Covenanters. The McDowells were reportedly descended from Someril, Lord of the Isles in 1144 through his son Douglas, who founded the Clan MacDougold, the House of Heremon. Dugall was the head of a warring clan; then the name became MacDougal of Larn. The clan surrendered to Sir Colin Campbell about the middle of the sixteenth century who then took the MacDougal heiress as his wife. The arms were a chevron and three muelets, the supporters--two lions guarding, the crest a stag head, and the motto: vivit post funera virtus.

When McDonnell of Antrim approached the walls of Londonderry, Ephraim McDowell was a defender at the age of sixteen in 1688; this was apparently the Argyle wars in which he participated. Two years later he fought in the battle of the Boyne. His wife Margaret Irvine was his first cousin. Ephraim apparently came to America on 4 Sep 1729 on the ship "George and Ann." He went to Rockbridge Co, VA about 1740 with Benjamin Borden I, who had earned 100,000 acres based on Borden settling 100 families in the county within two years. McDowell's place was the only burying ground in the area through at least 1742. In 1752 the Timber Ridge Church was built.

     Margaret Irvine was born a 1680 at Co Londonderry, Ireland. She married Ephraim McDowell a 1705. Margaret Irvine died at Co Londonderry. She was buried at Co Londonderry.

      Margaret Irvine was the daughter of an Irvine who fled England and settled in Londonderry. She may have been the daughter of John Irvine of County Derry near Londonderry who married Mary Finley. An Alex Irvine, a covenanter, closed the gates of Londonderry during the seige; Margaret may have been his sister or daughter.

     Sarah 'Sally' McDowell was born in 1740. She was the daughter of CPT John McDowell and Magdalena Woods. Sarah 'Sally' McDowell was christened on 16 Oct 1741. She married COL George Moffett I, son of CPT John Moffett and Mary Christian, on 3 Apr 1761 at 'Red House', Rockbridge Co, Virginia. Sarah 'Sally' McDowell married Rev Caleb Wallace, son of Samuel Wallace and Esther Baker, a 1812.¹ Sarah 'Sally' McDowell died in 1819.

     COL George Moffett I was born in 1735 at Augusta Co, Virginia. He was the son of CPT John Moffett and Mary Christian. COL George Moffett I married Sarah 'Sally' McDowell, daughter of CPT John McDowell and Magdalena Woods, on 3 Apr 1761 at 'Red House', Rockbridge Co, Virginia. COL George Moffett I died on 26 Aug 1811 at Mount Pleasant, Virginia. He was buried at Mount Pleasant, Augusta Co, Virginia.

      Col George Moffett was a founder of Liberty Hall Academy, the predecessor of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, VA. He and his wife had five sons and five daughters.

     James McDowell Moffett I was born in 1764. He was the son of COL George Moffett I and Sarah 'Sally' McDowell. James McDowell Moffett I married Hannah Winter(s) Miller, daughter of Henry Miller and Hannah Winter, on 19 Sep 1797. James McDowell Moffett I died in 1826. He was buried at Augusta Co, Virginia.

     Hannah Winter(s) Miller was born in 1770. She was the daughter of Henry Miller and Hannah Winter. Hannah Winter(s) Miller married James McDowell Moffett I, son of COL George Moffett I and Sarah 'Sally' McDowell, on 19 Sep 1797. Hannah Winter(s) Miller died c 1823.

     Mary A. Moffett was born a 1817. She was the daughter of James McDowell Moffett I and Hannah Winter(s) Miller. Mary A. Moffett married David Taylor a 1837.

     David Taylor was born a 1812. He married Mary A. Moffett, daughter of James McDowell Moffett I and Hannah Winter(s) Miller, a 1837.

     Alex Moffet Taylor was born a 1838. He was the son of David Taylor and Mary A. Moffett. Alex Moffet Taylor married Rebecca Brown (?) a 1863.

     Rebecca Brown (?) was born a 1843. She married Alex Moffet Taylor, son of David Taylor and Mary A. Moffett, a 1863.

     Cecil Taylor was born a 1864. He was the son of Alex Moffet Taylor and Rebecca Brown (?) Cecil Taylor married Bessie Dodsworth (?) a 1865.

     Bessie Dodsworth (?) was born a 1845. She married Cecil Taylor, son of Alex Moffet Taylor and Rebecca Brown (?), a 1865.

     Elizabeth Mills was born on 28 May 1793 at Richmond, Virginia. She married Jacob W. Weisiger on 5 Sep 1811 at Richmond, Virginia. Elizabeth Mills died on 27 Jul 1834 at age 41.

     COL Samuel McDowell was born on 7 Nov 1733. He was the son of CPT John McDowell and Magdalena Woods. COL Samuel McDowell married Mary McClung, daughter of William McClung, on 17 Jan 1754. COL Samuel McDowell died on 25 Sep 1817 at Mercer (Boyle) Co, Kentucky, at age 83.

      Col Samuel McDowell was a lawyer and a judge. He was the great-grandfather of Gov. James McDowell of Virginia. He lived in Augusta Co, VA in 1737 and then in Kentucky in 1787.

     Julia Knight Perry was born on 16 Mar 1966 at Oakland, California. She was the daughter of Bradley Wilbur Perry and Katherine Lapsley Sproul. Julia Knight Perry married Richard A. Lawrence on 20 Jun 1992 at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Julia Knight Perry died on 16 Jan 2015 at England at age 48.

     Peter Ruff was born a 1779. He was the son of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Catarina Helm.

     Henry Ruff was born a 1809. He was the son of Peter Ruff.

     George Ruff was born a 1807. He was the son of Peter Ruff.

     John Ruff was born a 1805. He was the son of Peter Ruff.

     Peggy Ruff was born a 1781. She was the daughter of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Catarina Helm.

     Andrew Ruff was born on 16 Jan 1785 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia. He was the son of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel. Andrew Ruff married Elizabeth Fanaway on 24 Mar 1808.

     Jacob Ruff II was born on 23 Mar 1787 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia. He was the son of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel. Jacob Ruff II married Mary "Polly" McCue on 12 Nov 1811 at Augusta Co, Virginia. Jacob Ruff II married Sarah Anderson, daughter of CPT Andrew Anderson and Martha Crawford, on 7 Sep 1819 at Augusta Co, Virginia. Jacob Ruff II died on 29 Nov 1853 at North River District, Augusta Co, Virginia, at age 66.

     William M. Ruff was born on 27 Jun 1794 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia. He was the son of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel. William M. Ruff married Rebecca McFarland Lambert on 22 May 1820 at Staunton, Virginia. William M. Ruff died on 29 Dec 1861 at Rockbridge Co, Virginia, at age 67.

      William M. Ruff and Rebecca McFarland Lambert were married by Rev. Conrad Speece. William was mayor of Staunton, VA.

     Rebecca McFarland Lambert was born in Jul 1789. She married William M. Ruff, son of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel, on 22 May 1820 at Staunton, Virginia. Rebecca McFarland Lambert died on 12 Nov 1853 at age 64. She was buried at Thornrose Cemetery, Staunton, Virginia.

     Jane Rebecca Wilson was born on 11 Nov 1821 at Buffalo Creek, Virginia. She was the daughter of James C. Wilson and Sallie McCorkle. Jane Rebecca Wilson married John Andrew Ruff, son of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, on 14 Jan 1845 at Rockbridge Co, Virginia. Jane Rebecca Wilson died on 10 Nov 1858 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia, at age 36. She was buried at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia.

      Jane Rebecca Wilson was quite beautiful and much sought after.

     Rosa C. Holmes was born on 25 Mar 1823. She married John Andrew Ruff, son of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, in 1860. Rosa C. Holmes died on 1 Mar 1881 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia, at age 57. She was buried at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia.
