     Sarah 'Sally' Ruff was born on 29 Jan 1792 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia. She was the daughter of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel. Sarah 'Sally' Ruff married Peter Eckle on 23 Mar 1809 at Rockbridge Co, Virginia. Sarah 'Sally' Ruff died on 16 May 1830 at age 38.

      Sarah "Sally" Ruff is transcribed from one family bible as born 29 Jan 1792 and from the other family bible as 29 Jan 1798. She was also transcribed from one bible as married 23 Mar 1807 and recorded in the courthouse as married 23 March 1809. Sarah and Peter Eckle were married by Rev. Daniel Blain.

Henrietta Brown married Judge John Milschleggel Ruff, son of Jacob Ruff I and Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel, on 7 Oct 1828.¹ Henrietta Brown died on 10 Jul 1870 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia, at age 83. She was buried at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia.

      Henrietta Brown was also known under the surname Cauthran, so she was likely a widow when whe married John Ruff. Henrietta's birth date and given name's spelling was decided in favor of the information on her gravestone, which moved her birth date back five years.

     Helen (Unknown) was born a 1805. She married (Unknown) Rogers a 1825. Helen (Unknown) married Samuel Wallace Ruff, son of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, a 1830.

     Isabella Coalter was born a 1815. She was the daughter of George Coalter. Isabella Coalter married Jacob M. Ruff, son of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, on 2 Dec 1835 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia.

     Reuben B. McNutt was born a 1813. He married Elizabeth Grigsby Ruff, daughter of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, on 28 Sep 1837.

     COL John H. Finley I was born a 1812. He was the son of William Finley. COL John H. Finley I married Martha Ann Ruff, daughter of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, on 16 Feb 1837. COL John H. Finley I was buried at Ohio.

     Katherine Lapsley Sproul was born on 15 Oct 1942 at Staunton, Virginia. She was the daughter of John Morgan Sproul and Elizabeth Larned Knight. Katherine Lapsley Sproul married Bradley Wilbur Perry, son of William James Perry III and Virginia Wilbur, on 8 Jun 1963 at Staunton, Virginia.

     Massillon Sehorn was born in 1822. He was the son of Dr Cathey Sehorn. Massillon Sehorn married Sarah Jane Ruff, daughter of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, on 26 May 1842 at Rockbridge Co, Virginia. Massillon Sehorn died in 1844.

      Massillon Sehorn, a deputy sheriff of Rockbridge County, was descended from early Shenandoah Valley settler Nicholas Sehorn, but Nicholas was several generations before Massillon. That Massillion and Marion Sehorn are brothers rather than father and son is based on Massillon's daughter going to live with her uncle Marion.

     Mary Martha E. Moore was born in Aug 1826. She was the daughter of George Moore. Mary Martha E. Moore married William Alexander Ruff, son of Judge John Milschleggel Ruff and Martha Wallace, on 29 Dec 1847 at Rockbridge Co, Virginia. Mary Martha E. Moore died on 15 Aug 1902.

     Eliza 'Betsy' Martin was born a 1776 at Worcester Co, Maryland. She was the daughter of George Martin I and Mary Pope. Eliza 'Betsy' Martin died in Aug 1799 at Baltimore, Maryland. She was buried at Presbyterian Burying Ground, Baltimore, Maryland.

     Christian Varner / Verner I was born c 1768. He was the son of Peter Varner. Christian Varner / Verner I married Anna Barbara "Barbara Ann" Muhlschlagel, daughter of Johann Andreas "Andrew" Muehlschlagel and Anna Maria Emmert, on 21 Apr 1796 at Lexington, Rockbridge Co, Virginia.¹ Christian Varner / Verner I died c 1805.

      Christian Varner continued the operation of Jacob Ruff's ordinary after Jacob died.

     Leanne Madeline Daggett is the daughter of Marvin Francis Daggett and Marjorie Pauline Finkle. Leanne Madeline Daggett married COL Gerald 'Jerry' Lamar Schmidt, son of Frederick Lamar Schmidt and Juanita 'Jan' Bessie Counts, in Aug 1969 at Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Leanne Madeline Daggett and COL Gerald 'Jerry' Lamar Schmidt were divorced on 2 May 1977 at Wyandotte Co, Kansas. Leanne Madeline Daggett married George S.      Leonard Cloninger was born in 1911. He was the son of Edward Lee Cloninger and Mattie Louella Winslett. Leonard Cloninger died in 1955.

      Johann Ruff apparently had three sons and a daughter.

Numerous Johann Ruffs were living in Germany with sons named Jacob, our ancestor's name, during this time period, so without knowing Johann's full name and/or his wife's full name, isolating our ancestor's line has proven impossible.

People posting family trees concerning our line on the internet erroneously decided our Johann was Johan Nicolaus Rapp (1712-1755) and his wife Margretha Schehr (married 1737; daughter or Geog Schehr) of Barbelroth, Sudliche Weinstrasse, Rheinland-Pfalz, without any plausible explanation of why their last name changed from Rapp to Ruff at immigration while other Ruffs immigrated from Germany without a name change. Futhermore, their son Johann Jacob Rapp was born eight years before our ancestor and they did not have sons named Simon or Matthias. Further examination of many of the posted trees show impossible lineage dates.

     Margaret Diane 'Di' Alford was born a 1936. She was the daughter of Huston Alexander Alford and Stella Shores. Margaret Diane 'Di' Alford married William 'Bill' James Perry IV, son of William James Perry III and Virginia Wilbur, on 31 Jan 1959 at Baltimore, Maryland.

     Rosana "Anna" H. Thornton was born a 1891. She married Abather "Ab" Wright, son of William Peyton Wright and Mary A. Weathers, a 1910.

     Adam Woods was born a 1693. He was the son of Sir John Andrew Woods II and Elizabeth Woods.

     Nathan Woods was born a 1695. He was the son of Sir John Andrew Woods II and Elizabeth Woods.

     William Woods was born a 1687 at Blair Park, Co Meath, Leinster, Irish Republic. He was the son of Sir John Andrew Woods II and Elizabeth Woods. William Woods immigrated in 1724 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
