William Glenn1,2

M, ID# 11253, (12 Mar 1782 - 7 Sep 1865)
Father:John Glenn I (1728 - a 18 Mar 1787)
Mother:Rosanna (Unknown) (c 1738 - Aug 1808)
William Glenn was born on 12 Mar 1782 at Craven Co, South Carolina. He was the son of John Glenn I and Rosanna (Unknown). William Glenn married Sarah "Sally" Allen Melton, daughter of LTC William Allen Melton I and Lucy Allen, on 8 Feb 1808. William Glenn died on 7 Sep 1865 at Muscogee Co, Georgia, at age 83.
William Glenn married Sarah Melton in either Edgefield Co, SC or nearby Greene Co, GA where she was born.

William and Sarah, both age 16-26, were in the 1810 Newberry Co, SC census with 2 males under 10 (his sons), 1 male 10-16 and another male 16-26 (both possibly his brothers), and an unknown female 25 - 45.

On 6 Oct 1810 William Glenn sold Jacob Crosswhite, both of Newberry Co, SC, 113 acres land for $400 with the dower released by Sally Glenn. The land was located on a small branch of the Saluda River, "...being part of 200 acres originally granted to John Glenn and it came by inheritance to the said William Glenn." Witnesses Thomas Pratt and Samuel Johnston.

Actually William's land was not part of his father's original 200 acres which was willed to William's brothers James and John. William's land was adjacent to that of his brothers and was purchased by his father from Henry Harbison. The 1825 will of Jacob Crosswhite of Newberry District, SC placed this 113 acres William sold to Jacob, although by then included in 512 acres, in the midst of the neighbors of the John Glenn clan -- adjoining lands of Francis Higgins deceased, Big John Stewart, Daniel Stewart and Henry Coate, whose families were neighbors when William's father John lived there, as well as Michael Werts, William Thomas deceased, Richard Wright, Andrew Toland and James Glenn deceased, William's brother. The land was composed of six different parcels and a tract originally granted to Wright, a tract purchased by Jacob Crosswhite from John G. Thomas, a tract purchased at Sheriff's sale for partition among the heirs of Robert Speer, deceased, a piece conveyed to Jacob by Henry Coate, and a tract of land originally granted to McAloni (possibly McLenen??).

On 19 Nov 1816 William Glenn of Putnam Co, GA purchased 202 acres of land lot 197, 15th District, Baldwin Co -- now Putnam Co -- for $800 from John Caswell, administrator of the estate of David Meers of Burke Co, GA.

On 16 Jan 1818 William Glen sold Benjamin Jourdan, both of Putnam Co, GA, 25 acres in lot 197, 15th District, Putnam Co for $312.50.

On 24 Jun 1820 William Glenn sold to Burton and William Sanders, all of Putnam Co, GA, two tracts of land including lot 197 where Glenn lived with 177 acres and lot 224 containing 11 acres adjoining lands of Judith Maine, Sanders, and William Melton, possibly Glenn's father-in-law. Witnesses Thomas S. Melton, Glenn's brother-in-law, and Thomas Wright. Thus William doubled his money in less than four years.

By 1820 William was enumerated in Putnam Co, GA.

William and his wife Sarah resided in Harris Co, GA in 1830 where they were shown with 2 females under age 5 [Nancy and Sarah], 2 males and 2 females age 5-9 (George, Mahala, 2 unknown children), 1 male and 2 females age 10-14 (William, Lucy, Mariah), 1 male and 1 female age 15-20 (James and Rose), and 1 male 20-30 (Jesse.)

By 1850 William, age 70, and Sarah, age 60, were in the Muscogee Co, GA census with their son George Washington Glenn.

Naomi Peterson1,2

F, ID# 11268, (2 Feb 1779 - Dec 1843)
Naomi Peterson was born on 2 Feb 1779 at Newberry Co, South Carolina. She married Daniel Goggans a 1801. Naomi Peterson married John Glenn II, son of John Glenn I and Rosanna (Unknown), a 1808. Naomi Peterson died in Dec 1843 at Newberry Co, South Carolina, at age 64. Her estate was probated on 22 Jan 1844 at Newberry Co, South Carolina.
Naomi Peterson was possibly the daughter of Thomas Peterson and Abigail Richardson. Much is known about her family because of lawsuits filed as a result of her husbands' estates.

Daniel Goggans, Naomi's first husband, died in possession of 321 acres on Little River bounded by the lands of John W. Payne, Delton Moon and Thomas Adkinson deceased. Daniel Goggans bought the land in 1800 at a sheriff's sale from the property of Brooks; Brooks died and Naomi purchased Mrs Sarah Brooks dower rights. At Daniel's death he left Naomi a widow with two daughters, one who later married Robert Williamson.

Naomi Goggans married John Glenn who is was said purchased Daniel Goggans' daughters' two shares of Daniel's estate. John died in possession of the former Goggans land and left Naomi a widow with children Mark, Mary (married Joseph Nelson; note says Joseph Wilson on head sheet), Elizabeth Ann, James C., and Cooper B. Glenn. One other son, John F. Glenn, had already died leaving a widow Edney and children William G, James F, and Daniel C.

By 1840 Naomi Glenn was an age 50-59 year old widow living in Newberry Co, SC with 1 male 15-19, 2 males 20-29 and 6 slaves and 1 free colored person.

In her 30 Nov 1840 Newberry District, SC will, Naomi noted her children from both marriages but left her assets to her children with John Glenn, giving only a dollar each to her daughters by Daniel Goggans compared to $700 each to her daughters and her land to her sons by John Glenn. Witnesses were William, Jemima and Martha A. Goggins and there was no executor noted which may have led to some of the probate issues because she left the balance of funds to her unnamed executors.
