John Anderson I was born a 1691. He married Margaret (Unknown) c 1716 at Ireland. John Anderson I immigrated c 1735 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
John Anderson is thought to have immigrated to America with his family via Philadelphia, PA. On 10 Jan 1735 he patented 400 acres in Spotsylvania Co, VA adjacent to Gawin Corbin on the south side of Robinson Run.

Seven or eight Anderson heads of families were among the earliest settlers of Augusta Co, VA. Four of them -- John, George, William and James -- settled in the Stone Church, Middle River neighborhood and are believed to have been brothers. The other Andersons settled on Borden's grant in present-day Rockbridge Co, VA and it is unknown whether they were related to the Augusta Co Andersons.

John Anderson II1,2,3

M, ID# 1356, (a 1714 - 1787)
Father:John Anderson I (a 1691 - )
Mother:Margaret (Unknown) (a 1696 - 1764)
John Anderson II was born a 1714 at Ireland. He was the son of John Anderson I and Margaret (Unknown). John Anderson II married Jean 'Jane' Stephenson ? a 1734 at Ireland. John Anderson II immigrated in 1735 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died in 1787 at Augusta Co, Virginia. He was buried at Old Augusta Cemetery, Middle River, Augusta Co, Virginia. His estate was probated on 20 Feb 1787 at Augusta Co, Virginia.
John Anderson and his wife were of Scotch-Irish descent, meaning they had Scotch ancesters who had immigrated to Ireland in search of religious freedom before immigrating to America. He likely came to Virginia from Pennsylvania with the first wave of Scotch-Irish immigrants who followed the pioneer John Lewis going to Augusta County, VA. John was deeded 748 acres of land by William Beverly on 5 Jun 1738; this was the Anderson homestead. The farm was located on Middle River at the crossing of that stream by the valley turnpike and the valley railroad, and that portion of his estate where he resided was later the property of Andrew Bowling. He massed a total of about 1100 acres and built the first mill on Middle River. Augusta County was created from Orange County in 1738.

John proved his own importation before the Orange Co, VA Court on 22 May 1740 stating that he imported himself, his wife Jean (Jane), and his daughters Esther, Mary and Margaret. In 1742 he was a soldier in Captain John Smith's company of militia in Augusta County, VA and 1756 he was a soldier in Captain Christian's militia company. He was one of the first justices for Augusta Co, VA named by Gov Gooch in 1745. John Anderson was named after Parson Craig on the twenty-seven acre deed to the Old Stone Church conveyed by John Poague in 1772; by this is was inferred that John was the senior elder and probably one of the first elders. His will dated 4 Mar 1779 and proved 20 Feb 1787 is recorded in the Augusta Co, VA Will Book #6, page 550. (There is a discrepency on the death date of 1787 or 1789.)

John may be buried at the Old Augusta Cemetery, 8 miles north of Staunton, VA on route 11 in Augusta County, VA across the road "a short distance" from the Old Stone Church Cemetery where the earliest graves are from 1841.

George Anderson married Elizabeth McDowell Crawford on 5 Oct 1738 at Lancaster Co, Pennsylvania. George Anderson immigrated c 1739 to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died on 21 Apr 1789 at Augusta Co, Virginia. He was buried at Old Stone Church, Middle River, Augusta Co, Virginia.
In order to obtain a Virginia land grant, on 22 May 1740 George Anderson made a statement in court that he imported himself, Elizabeth his wife, William, Margaret, John and Francis Anderson from Ireland to Philadelphia, PA and from there into the Colony at his own expense (Orange Co, VA Order Book B, pag 158).

George and Elizabeth must have been newly married as their first child William was baptized in 1740. Thus, the William Anderson who George imported was not likely a son; the John Anderson was not his son either but could possibly have been his father, who may have died in Pennsylvania, or John may have gone to Augusta Co, VA but not acquired real property in Virginia and thus not have an estate to be settled.

George's will dated 12 Jun 1784 and proved 21 Apr 1789 mentions his wife; his sons William, John, George and James; his daughter Jane, and four sons-in-law, among others; it is recorded in the Augusta Co, VA Will Book #7, page 144.
