Father:Thomas Lanphier I (a 1665 - Aug 1731)
Mother:Elizabeth Kyle (a 1670 - b 1733)
Charts:John Satchell Martin * lineage
Thomas Lanphier II was born in 1699 at Ireland. He was the son of Thomas Lanphier I and Elizabeth Kyle. Thomas Lanphier II married Elizabeth Going, daughter of Robert Going I and Mary Rowe, a 1726 at Liskeveen, Co Tipperary, Irish Republic.4 Thomas Lanphier II immigrated in May 1732 to Cape Henry, Virginia. He died in 1741 at Port Tobacco, Charles Co, Maryland.
Thomas Lanphier may have been born in Parkstowne, County Tipperary, Munster, Republic of Ireland. He immigrated to America with his family and his nephew Henry Burgess. Thomas quarreled with the ship's captain who brought them from Cobh, County Cork, Ireland to near Cape Henry, Princess Anne Co, VA. According to family tradition, Thomas immigrated to America with eleven servants and property amounting to 40,000 pounds sterling.

After settling briefly in Accomack Co, VA, they moved to Port Tobacco, MD where Thomas and Mr. Marshall ran a brewing establishment; whether this was a brewery or a tavern was unclear. Port Tobacco was Charles County, MD's most important town for two centuries until the 1890s, at one time rivaling Williamsburg, VA and Philadelphia, PA as a colonial port. By the 1790s farm land silt filled the river at Port Tobacco making the town unreachable by large ships and signaling its future demise. The fatal blow came from an 1892 fire that burned the courthouse causing the village to become a ghost town.

The first inventory of Thomas' estate was filed in Maryland on 23 March 1747; this inventory and a second one from 1748 were together valued at over fifty-three pounds. The inventories draw into question the date of his death and present a sharp contrast to the wealth with which he reportedly arrived in America.10
